As a nurse at Sanitas, I treat my patients with respect and compassion. I listen, answer questions and develop a healthcare plan for their needs. A good day at work is when I’ve helped a patient learn and understand what’s happening physically so we can create a plan to manage any issues to ensure a positive quality of life. My day is even better when they show improvement on their next visit. When I was about 11, my cousin was burned by flashback from a fire, so I reacted by putting cool water, baking soda and vinegar on his face to cool him down. Though I was just learning to cook, I knew baking soda was a good way to put out a grease fire, vinegar was a cleanser and water cooled things off, so in my 11-year-old mind, that made sense. The doctors wanted to know what was used to keep his face from blistering and not scarring. They were particularly impressed when my aunt told them of my treatment. I choose to go into healthcare because it gives me a sense of completion and I like giving back. I've never thought of doing anything else and have been in this profession for over 20 years. I love spending free time with my family. I also like going to sporting events, garage sales, fun activities and gatherings. I enjoy cooking and baking new dishes after watching food videos or finding recipes in magazines.
