In taking care of patients at Sanitas, I get to know them––taking time to discuss and explain treatment plans, and ensuring they understand the cause of their illness or ailment. It’s a good day at work when I have positive interactions with my colleagues and with patients who achieve the health results they’ve worked toward. I recently moved from New Orleans to Jersey City. But growing up in Chicago, I worked with vulnerable populations through volunteer programs. To say that medicine or nursing is a calling could sound trite, but I’ve been preparing and training for this profession for a long time. As a teen, I volunteered at food pantries for the underserved communities, fed the homeless with my earnings and worshipped and enjoyed fellowship with the communities. When I was 11, I wrote a proposal that was fully funded to open a library in an underserved area of Chicago. As an adult, I’ve continued that same practice. When I’m not working, I love to spend time with friends and family, enjoying the company of others and being supportive of their accomplishments or life challenges.
